Sensex began trading at 76,679.11, up from its previous close of 76,456.59. It increased by 594 points to reach an intraday high of 77,050.53, just 29 points short of its all-time high of 77,079.04, which it reached on Monday, June 10. With 19 stocks in the green, the index ended the day at 76,606.57, down 150 points, or 0.20 percent.

In the end, the top losers in the index were shares of Mahindra & Mahindra (down 1.37 percent), Britannia (down 1.26 percent), and Hindustan Unilever (down 0.97 percent).
