Stocks edge higher, Nifty closed at 17956.60

Today, NSE Nifty 50 started at red and was up by 0.55 percent and closed in green. Nifty above 17950.

Overall, it was a positive day for the Nifty 50 as it closed in green. The market sentiment was positive.

The Bank Nifty also opened in red and was up by 0.69 percent closed in green at 42371.25. Similarly, the BSE Sensex was up by 0.51 percent and closed in green at a high of 60261.18.

Equity markets staged a firm turnaround intraday to close Friday’s session with tiny gains powered by selected large index such as Infosys, ICICI Bank, TCS and HUL, which gained over 1 per cent each.

Other battleground stocks that supported the recovery included Tata Steel, IndusInd Bank, Ultratech Cement, Bajaj Finance, NTPC, Airtel, Adani Enterprises, Eicher Motors and BPCL, which gained 1-2 per cent

Today, the advance-decline ratio was 1.36, and the market breadth was positive. The volatility index India Vix decreased by 5.33 percent to settle at 14.46 and the FIIs were net sellers today.

The advance-decline ratio of 1.36 indicates that the number of stocks that advanced was greater than the number of stocks that declined. This is a positive sign for the market, as it suggests that more stocks are increasing in value than decreasing. The positive market breadth indicates that the majority of stocks traded today were up, which is another positive sign for the market. The decrease in the volatility index India Vix suggests that the market is becoming less volatile, which is a good sign.
